Interesting interview with Harry Potter star Dan Radcliffe on Moviefone. Actually, it’s not really; just a load of stock, PR-cleared answers that seem half rehearsed and half fumbling. He does come out with this gem halfway through, however, in response to the interviewer asking what he thinks about Dumbledore becoming a figurehead for the gay rights movement (he’s not real, people!):
“It’s wonderful. I grew up around gay people my entire life, basically, that’s possibly why I’m quite camp, and some people think I’m gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome. It’s always good to keep them guessing [laughs].”
By analysing his answers, you can make the following conclusions:
1. Dan grew up around gay people, but he also grew up on the Harry Potter movie sets, so a good proportion of the actors in the films must be gay, and Ian Mckellen isn’t even in ‘em.
2. Dan believes that campness is an airborne and contagious disease.
3. He obviously prefers the ‘letting girls think you’re gay so that you can get close to them’ approach. Awesome!
3. Who’s been telling him that keeping fans guessing about your sexuality is a good thing in the movie business? The only actors who do that are the gay ones and Hugh Jackman. Surely some bad advice from his publicist.
