After last weeks showing of the excellent Torchwood mini-series on UK TV screens (starting 20 July on BBC America), the Sunday Express newspaper reports its creator, Russell T Davies, is jumping ship for Hollywood. This puts a question mark over any further episodes. So, if you haven’t watched this metrosexual, sci-fi 5-parter yet, you really, really should when you get the chance.
That completely, 100% heterosexual star of this Summer’s The Proposal, Ryan Reynolds, has inked on for a big budget movie version of comic book character, The Green Lantern. They really are getting to the bottom of the superhero barrel and I’m struggling to get excited about yet another comic-strip-turned-movie. I guess Ryan will look better in lycra than Tobey Maguire…
Homophobe and Anti-Semite Mel Gibson (to use his full title these days) is to star in new movie by a gay director – I think we can give Jodie Foster that title now. It’s called Beaver; he’ll star as a depressed husband who finds solace in a glove puppet; she’ll call the shots and play his wife; this is their first time working together since 1994′s Maverick. So, to sum up: Mel will be using his hand a lot in Jodie Foster’s Beaver.
And finally… not so smug now, Mr. Cohen. Bruno might be the weekend’s No.1 movie, with $30.4m in ticket sales, but it dropped a whopping 39% between Friday’s opening and Saturday, so doesn’t bode for a long run. And the total could be lower when the official figures are in.
