Apparently, 1000′s of New Yorkers queued in the middle of the night this week for the chance to be set dressing on the Sex and the City movie sequel. The casting call went out for nightclub extras with very specific looks, including ‘gays and lesbians’ – hey, being gay ain’t a fashion statement.

Lets hope there’s some better gay representation on screen this time around instead of one-dimensional super-queen, Anthony Marentino. Carrie’s gay boyfriend, Stanford, is a step up, but he barely appeared in the last movie.

For a show that has spanned six series and now two movies, that is set in New York, a city stuffed with gays, and that’s always had a huge, loyal, gay fanbase, it’s criminal that gay characters have been so thin on the ground – Samantha’s brief, lesbian phase notwithstanding. And yet they find space for desperate, C-list celebs, who are already lining up to be in the sequel – back of the queue!
