Gay movie preview 2010

Gay Movies released in 2010This year is shaping up to be a good’en for gay movies. I’ve put together a list of some that I’m looking forward to in 2010, and you should be too…

…The producers of Make the Yuletide Gay leave the camp comedy behind and step in a different direction with Sticke Figures, a drama about a young, gay artist who returns to his home town for the funeral of an ex-girlfriend and then discovers she’s bequeathed him something that’s going to turn his world upside down. The rather lovely Matthew Montgomery stars…

…Will gay porn superstar Brent Corrigan be able to – ahem – pull off the move into ‘proper’ gay movies? He co-stars with Dante’s Cover, Charlie David, in a sexy, time-travelling drama. With this pair starring, Judas Kiss is already guaranteed to look good…

…If you loved last year’s hit Brit gay movie Shank and found its mix of gritty realism, sex, violence, romance, action and powerful acting a breath of fresh air, chances are you’re gonna love this year’s Release, from the same team…

…Very excited about gay movie, Howl, which is coming soon. James Franco – the boy just loves to play gay – stars as American poet Allen Ginsberg in his younger days of sexual discovery and later on during his obscenity trial in the 1950’s when he got in trouble for writing some homo stuff.

Got a good pedigree this one – the writer/directors have an Oscar on their mantelpiece. Expect much trippiness…

…Kind of like Sex And The City – but with fuzz, gay movie Bear City is about a bunch of gay friends having funny and rude encounters among New York’s bear scene as the hairy cubs gear up for a weekend of partying.

Bear City is having the finishing touches applied as we speak and will be growling its way onto screens later this year…

…Not everybody loves Philip Morris, especially all the film distributors who said “no” to the movie way back in Sundance 2009, but I Love You Philip Morris will finally get a cinema release in March.

Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey bring some Hollywood ‘A’ list (and buggery) to a very indie movie in this story of a conservative cop (Carrey) who reassesses his whole life after a near-fatal car crach, then comes out as gay to his wife and family and embarks upon a life of crime, falling in love with his cellmate (McGregor) along the way.

The movie is rated ‘R’ and you even have to be over 17 to watch the trailer… Dorothy, I don’t think we’re in Brokeback territory anymore…

…Reminding us that there is a ‘T’ in LGBT cinema, Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives high-kicks its way onto screens very soon. You know, I think that’s all I need to say on that one!

Moving further afield, there are several foreign-language movies out this year to peak the interest:

Raging Sun, Raging Sky is either 3 hours of art-house, softcore porn or a powerful, experimental film about love and desire that transcends mere sex and uses a healthy dose of mythology, depending upon your point of view.

But with cult, Mexican director, Julián Hernández (Broken Sky), behind the lens, one thing’s guaranteed: this gay movie is going to look stunning (just check out the trailer

Eyes Wide Open is a gay movie from Israel about a married butcher, and father of 4, from Jerusalem’s ultra-orthodox Jewish community who tries to solve a mid-life crisis by having a gay affair with a handsome, 22-year-old student – and judging from the pics of actor Ran Danker, I can see why (just Google Image him). Lots of intense drama, heartache and soul-searching ensues…

Give Me Your Hand was actually released last year in its native France, but this gay movie will be getting a showing around the rest of the world this year. Starring real-life twin brothers Victor and Alexandre Carril as quarrelling brothers trying to get to Barcelona for their mother’s funeral.

This is a good-looking, gay road movie with all that angst, passion, understated action and complex feelings that French movies do best…

…”Are we in a co-dependent relationship?” is a question we’ve all asked at some point. The pretty, young gay pair who feature in Soundless Wind Chime get to act it out in one of the most exciting cities in the world, Hong Kong.

In fact that’s only the first part of this gay movie about Chinese immigrant, Ricky, and Swiss drifter, Pascal. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you watching as the action moves to Pascal’s home country…

Let me know about any gay movies I haven’t mentioned that should be on the list.
