There’s a new gay movie opening in London on Friday. I’ve not seen Give Me Your Hand myself, but it seems to have divided critics at film festival showings around the world. There’s a great trailer though.
What I can tell you is that it’s a about two handsome, 18-year-old twins on a voyage of sexual discovery. So far so porno, but this is Art House and the movie promises plenty of gorgeously photographed scenery, soul searching and wry humour as the brothers flee their French village and journey to their estranged mother’s funeral in Italy.
The two young men quarrel and spar along the way as each tries to find his individual identity (it’s not easy being a twin) while their brooding good looks and youthful spark appeals to both men and women. It’s this growing sexual awareness in the twins that will eventually distinguish and divide them (i.e. one turns out to be gay).
What’s really interesting is how the two real-life twins – who apparently fight more with each other at home than in the movie – were cast in Give Me Your Hand; their first acting gig. Director Pascal-Alex Vincent (no stranger to gay movie festivals) explains in a Q&A session from last month’s London LGB Film Festival how the twins are local celebs in his Paris neighbourhood for their street fighting and how this was part inspiration for the movie.
