Turning into a kind of ‘six degrees’ for gay culture, a new film for BBC will see Dr. Who actor Matt Smith playing gay.

Christopher And His Kind is based upon gay author Christopher Isherwood’s memoir and his experiences in the pre-war Berlin of the early ‘30s. Isherwood wrote A Single Man, the source for Tom Ford’s recent film. His collection of short stories titled ‘Goodbye To Berlin’ was the basis for the movie Cabaret starring Liza Minnelli. Matt Smith currently stars in one of the most gay-friendly shows on TV and Christopher And His Kind is being adapted by Kevin Elyot, the writer behind hit, gay play My Night With Reg and TV movie Clapham Junction… See what I mean?

Matt is currently getting rave reviews for his turn as the time lord in the little blue box (I think it helps that he looks like he’s from another planet) and the first episode of the new Who scored BBC America’s biggest ever audience.

Expect another quirky performance from Matt in Christopher And His Kind.
