It’s not often that I get to bring you movie shorts currently playing gay film fests, but today I can, courtesy of YouTube and alt rock band Ash.

The video to their 2009 track True Love 1980 just played at Toronto’s Inside Out Festival as part of its short film selection and it’s a stylish ode to androgyny, uncontrollable attraction and the electricity of first love – so a lot to fit into 4 minutes. Nice little tune, too.

Ash are one of those bands that have been quietly getting on with it for years, having the occasional hit song without ever reaching stadium heights of success. Lead singer Tim Wheeler still looks good after 18 years behind the mike, though.

As for homoerotic music promos, this one will have to do until Lady Ga Ga releases the video for new single Alejandro – apparently it’s going to be a right gay affair, Ga Ga telling The Times “It’s a celebration and an admiration of gay love—it confesses my envy of the courage and bravery they require to be together.” Ah, thanks Ga.
