Whether you think UK TV teen-dult show Skins is the coolest and most inspired thing on your teevee box ever or just an unbearable bunch of spoilt, self-obsessed, shallow, over-styled city brats, there’s no stopping its current assault across our screens…
The show is already halfway across the Atlantic on its way to a US TV makeover courtesy of MTV and now its UK broadcaster, Channel 4, have announced a movie version is gearing up and will hit cinema screens next year.
No word yet on which teen characters from Skins‘ first four series will make the cut, but maybe gay dancer Maxxie (played by the not exactly unattractive Mitch Hewer) could feature – Mitch not been too busy lately, unlike some of his series 1 & 2 co-stars. We all know what Nicholas Hoult’s been up to, seducing Colin Firth in hit gay movie A Single Man, while Dev Patel starred in Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire.
So what can we expect from the Skins movie? Producer Steve Christian commented “what we don’t want to do is to make a 90-minute episode of Skins. It would be a complete disaster…” (didn’t they say the exact thing about Sex and the City?) I think the clue is in the fact filming will take place on the Isle of Man as well as the show’s usual home of Bristol, so Skins Goes on Holiday then (which is exactly what they’ve done with Sex and the City 2).
