Some gay film festival news for movie fans in the US and UK today. Variety reports on the selection for L.A.’s Outfest (8th – 18th July) with opening night honours predictably going to James Franco-starrer Howl, while High School intersex comedy, Spork, brings things to a close on Gala Night.

Sandwiched in between are 60 gay features – including Owls, the first film from a previous participant in Outfest’s Screenwriting Lab – and 87 shorts, so plenty to choose from. Outfest entertained 45,000 pairs of eyes last year and hopefully will be even bigger for its 28th edition.

Across the pond, London’s Lesbian & Gay Film Fest has packed a suitcase and just started a tour of the UK which will continue until October – check out their website for dates and venues. For this compacted tour they’ve gone to the trouble of sorting the wheat from the chaff so you get gems like Children of God, Plan B and Give Me Your Hand without having to sit through the duds.

And for anyone not able to get to either without a costly plane ticket, and maybe feeling left out by today’s gay movie post, above is a marketing experiment by McDonalds to be more gay inclusive. Bit subtle, if you ask me – could just use the slogan ‘happily filling your buns with meat’.
