The final taboo (and a kind of disturbing, recent trend) in gay porn would seem to be brotherly love of the physical kind, especially between twins or triplets and it’s striking how readily these ‘twincest’ movies have been accepted into gay culture without much thought of the moral and legal implications.
Now other forms of gay entertainment are exploring the murky waters of this particular type of forbidden love. From Beginning to End (Do Começo ao Fim) is a new Brazilian film about two half-brothers (note: half-brother = less icky, apparently) who form an unnaturally close bond as young kids after becoming part of the same family. As they grow into handsome, young men this protective and loving bond crosses over into sexual attraction and their grief at the death of their mother is the catalyst for some bedroom action.
A 2005 gay short called Starcrossed (watch above) treads similar ground, albeit with a much darker edge and a shocking ending. Recent gay movie Give Me Your Hand used the casting of real-life twins in the two central roles as a kind of homoerotic shorthand, although nothing funny happens between these two; the gay brother’s affections belonging elsewhere.
From Beginning to End is playing tonight at San Fancisco’s Frameline Film Festival.
