‘Violet Tendencies’ is a rather good movie title and the latest film from the team behind The Big Gay Musical. It’s a simple enough plot – ageing ‘fag-hag’ realises she’ll never find true love if she hangs around the mo’s all day and sets about making the changes to her life in order to meet Mr. Right – but it reaches the screen with the filmmaker’s usual camp and colourful mix of comedy, heart, one-liners and beautiful men.
An eclectic cast includes Marcus Patrick (interesting trivia: was discovered by Simon Cowell as a teenager) as Zeus, as well as TV hunk Samuel Whitten and model/dancer Adrian Armas.
Violet herself is played by voiceover artist Mindy Cohn, here getting her own turn in the spotlight (interesting trivia: Mindy is the voice of Scooby Doo’s Velma, another woman conspicuously lacking a man in her life).
The movie (currently lighting up the gay film festival calender in the U.S.) finds a use for the term ‘fag stag’, which apparently applies to a straight guy who also spends a lot of time with the gays. Well we are fabulous.
