Matt Smith travels back in time to play gay

Turning into a kind of ‘six degrees’ for gay culture, a new film for BBC will see Dr. Who actor Matt Smith playing gay.
Christopher And His Kind is based upon gay author Christopher Isherwood’s memoir and his experiences in the pre-war Berlin of the early ‘30s. Isherwood wrote A Single Man, the source for Tom [...]

A Single Man

I imagine reviewing A Single Man is a bit like trying to write about Tom Ford’s latest fashion collection: how many things can you say about a suit, at the end of the day?
Just like one of Tom’s impeccably tailored suits, A Single Man is traditional in structure, classic in style and doesn’t have many [...]

You don’t know me at all!

It’s bad enough that YouTube thinks it knows what I want to watch, recent suggestions being 6 minutes of Tom Cruise’s teeth; Tyra Banks passing judgment on gay-for-pay porn stars; a Mexican short gay movie without any dialogue (or much point); Quentin Crisp explaining that the term ‘movie star’ used to apply soley to women [...]

I love you, Ewan McGregor! Tom Ford: not so much

Hollywood stars don’t often have much to say that’s interesting, relevant or worth reporting, so when they do and its about gay movies. the little antenna thing on my desk starts whirring uncontrollably.

I’ve [...]

A great start for A Single Man

Well, the results are in and it’s a big thumbs up for Tom Ford’s A Single Man. The reviews have been fabulous and so too are this weekend’s box office numbers, with the newly released movie taking $216,328 from just nine cinemas – a great start.
Lee Marshall in Screen International wrote:
Fashion designer Tom Ford gets [...]

When is A Single Man not A Single Man?

Talking of soon-to-be-released A Single Man, I’m wondering if there’s been any confusion among audiences what with the Coen brothers’ A Serious Man still doing the rounds in theaters.
I can imagine unwitting moviegoers, keen to check out Tom Ford’s directing debut, turning up to see a story about a college professor in 1960’s America who’s [...]

Someone stop him!

Exactly what is Tom Ford about to do to Colin Firth in this pic from the set of their new movie, A Single Man? Looks like he’s either going to strangle Colin or perform brain surgery – maybe a lobotomy? Although, from watching Firth’s movie performances, I’ve suspected for some time that he’s already had [...]
